Practical advice: management of short exits outside national territorial waters

In order to benefit from the Commercial Exemption (FCE, ICE, etc), the yacht must prove that she achieves, for the year ending, a ratio of at least 70% of all her commercial trips on the “high seas”.

If the yacht relies on her AIS, she must verify its proper functioning during tests at the beginning of the season. Be aware that some navigation systems (Furano & Raymarine) display a line called “12NM territorial line” on their screen that is calculated from 12NM of the surrounding capes but does not take into account the “baselines” that close off inland waters. For example, on the French Riviera, it can be observed that French territorial waters are up to 1.2NM further offshore than this 12NM line.
